Nitrobenzene

is produced by reaction of Benzene and HNO3.

Using the adiabatic process for nitration, the heat of the exothermic reaction is directly used to reconcentrate the sulphuric acid by evaporating water which is fed with the diluted nitric acid and which is formed during nitration (reaction water).

The PLINKE adiabatic NB process consists of four major operating steps:

  • nitration
  • product separation and refining
  • sulphuric acid reconcentration
  • waste gas treatment
Diluted nitric acid of any concentration between 50% and 68% HNO3 can be used.
